Founded in June 1997, ONI was a privately held company headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts. ONI was focused on addressing the new healthcare economics by delivering the next generation of MRI machines: high field, low cost dedicated purpose systems. The company's first offering was the OrthOne™. Further developments lead to the MSK Extreme™, a 1.0 Tesla dedicated purpose MR system with v-SPEC™ Technology and DICOM Conformance for extremity applications.
In October 2009 GE Healthcare bought ONI Medical Systems for US$ 17 Billion.

The activation of the brain is mirrored in the local changes in metabolism and hemodynamics (brit. haemodynamics). By using heavily T2 weighted scans activated brain areas show an increase in signal intensity as oxyhaemoglobin (brit. oxyhaemoglobin) is diamagnetic and deoxyhemoglobin (brit. deoxyhaemoglobin) is paramagnetic. Oxygen mapping will benefit from high field strength.

Philips Medical System is the diagnostics business of Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands, one of the world's biggest electronics companies and Europe's largest. Philips is quoted on the NYSE (symbol: PHG), London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and other stock exchanges. On October 19, 2001, Philips Medical Systems completed a 3-year acquisition strategy through its purchase of Marconi Medical Systems. Marconi Medical Systems offered leading multislice CT, MRI, and Nuclear Gamma Camera systems to medical institutions around the world. As well as new 3.0T developments, Philips is also in collaboration with researchers at the University of Nottingham, with the intention of developing an ultrahigh field strength clinical 7.0T whole body MR system.

The interactions between the most tested heart valve prostheses and the magnetic field of MRI devices are of no significance. However, there are many different types of heart valve prostheses and in the particular case their MRI safety should be checked.

Prosthetic heart valves, depending on the type and the material, are not necessarily considered to be dangerous in fields up to 3T. Patients should not undergo high field MRI examinations if valve dehiscence is clinically suspected.

Quenching is the cryogen boil off (liquid helium) which is used to cool the superconducting magnet coils of high field MRI systems. This results in a loss of superconductivity in the magnet, in a rapid increase in the resistivity of the magnet, which generates heat that results in further evaporation of the cryogen.

A quench can cause total magnet failure and should be avoided.
