is this kind of zebra artifact?
Looks more like a Zipper artifact. Can be caused by electronic noise. Switch off all light bulbs, remove all electronic equipment from the scanner room, make sure that the door is really closed (clean the contacts between door and jam if necessary) and try again. If the artifact consists control the penetration panel where the cables enter the room and the faraday cage, it is possible that there is a leak in the RF shield. If the artifact remains with all coils and sequences you need the service to repair the problem.

MRI artifact
No it is not an RF leak artifact. That would appear different. I would guess that there was one instance of motion. Note that the artifact is mostly on the high contrast areas (white against black) where the patient can move the most.

Also it may be that your acquisition matrix was a little on the low side, which would lead to larger pixel-y appearance that is more apparent when there's motion.

Prone plantarflexion ankle MRI-upside down dicom images
We have been performing our ankle MRI exams in prone plantarflexion in order to decreased magic angle artifact. The images are beautiful and much easier to interpret. However, they come out upside down and reversed from the scanner. We have the techs flip them correctly in our PACS. Unfortunately, many of our referring doctors have their own separate pacs system and they take the dicom data from the disc we create for the patient and load into their system. When they do this, the images are again upside down and reversed. We are using GE 3T systems. Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on how to fix the dicom images that are burned onto the disc? Thanks.

MR750: ASSET Artifact or 32 Channel coil?
Hi,

We do have the same artifact on the same scanner with 32 channel coil. I was thinking about herringbone artifact as well first, but then some kind of "spikes" of very high or low intensity should be seen in k-space, which I don't see in our images. We have this artifact only for DTI.

If you find out what it is, please let me know.

Best regards.

Muscle shading in 3T Images
This artifact is known as the dielectric effect. It is a phenomena to all magnets. At 1.5T the dielectric effect is at 60cm so when we scan at a FOV of 40 or less we don't see it. At 3t the dielectric effect is reduced to 30cm so we now see it when using a FOV of 30 or more. There is no way to get rid of it that I know of and you will see an increase with patients with more magnetic suseptibility (ie. patients with ascities, and pregnant patient). You could try using Surface Coil Intensity Correction (SCIC) and it will help to even out the extreme dark and light in your image. Some vendors will suggest using a Fat Sat pad to help reduce this artifact. I have tried it with little success.
Looking at your image, it looks like you were scanning on a GE 3T HDX. I hope that the vendors will have a fix for this artifact soon. For right now though we are just dealing with it. I hope this helps.
