90 excitation pulse vs 180 inversion pulse
Im a medical student interested in diagnostic medicine and aim to understand (on some level) the basics of MRI theory but lack an advanced physics background.

Why are the "spins" "brought into coherence" by the 90 excitation pulse but not by a 180 inversion RF pulse?
And how is the 180 inversion pulse explained on the nuclear level, i.e. "paralell/antiparalell" orientation of single nuclei (is it possible by such a simple model?)?

Is it possible to explain this "in layman's terms"?. I find that most texts (at least those written for physicians) omit proper explanations of this.

Thank You!

Technical Specifications
Hi,
I'm kind of new to MRI technology and am doing a comparison of various MRI equipment. Could somebody give me a brief summary of the technical specifications I should pay special attention to?
E.g. High slew rate is preferable
High transmit power (at least 15kW)
High gradient field strength
Helium usage (in terms of maintenance costs)
Etc.

What other factors play a huge role in differing price?

Thanks in advance

need some help to indentify a process
hello all , i need osme help solving out a question i need to get credit for in the university.

i was givven test's results and i need to find the process (stroke , AS etc. ).

increased ADC in the superior long. Fasc., insular cortex, hippocampus.

PET dopamine - no specific evidences

31P-Spec decreased phosphocreatine at the dorsal prefronal cortex

T2 FLAIR -
prolonged T2 mainly in parietal post central gyrus, others occipital and temportal regions show similar changes.

MRI libmic:
reduced acitivty is cingulate cortex and DLPFC and other limbic system areas

if u have an answer or an idea to which other mri tests i need to ask , i whould to hear it.
thank you

Seeking Employment
Dear MRI techs & managers around the world,

I am writing to this board with a rather unusual tale to tale. I am looking for a job as an entry-level MRI technologist. What makes my situation unusual is that I did something kind of dumb after graduating the Sonoma College associates degree program in MRI Technology (graduated 1994, 4.0 gpa). I worked for about one year as a tech, and then I got a wild idea and moved to China. Then I moved to Thailand. There I met my Wife and we had a Beautiful Baby Daughter. ☺ These girls are the Love of my Life and the reason I am addressing this board. As many of you know, one’s priorities change when one gets married and/or has offspring. My priorities are now to support and provide them with a decent lifestyle and to do what I can to ensure my daughter receives a high quality education.

To do this I feel I must return to MRI. I also just want to return to MRI for my own personal fulfillment. I am very interested in MRI and love working as a tech. I feel accomplished when I am sitting there performing a scan and I get a great deal of satisfaction from helping people who need help. I am a good tech, I care about patients, I learn fast and I have a strong work ethic. I just need a chance, which I understand is asking a lot, because I had my first chance, and then I threw it away to go on some sort of fantasy fulfillment of traveling around Asia. I do not regret it though. I met the love of my life; my wife, Noi, and together we had the most beautiful, smart, healthy daughter, Megan, whom truly blesses our lives. I also grew as a person, and am now ready to shoulder the responsibility of caring for them in a proper manner.

I am a born & bred citizen of the USA. I am ready, willing and able to work anywhere at anytime. I am not an RT. I will pursue ARMRIT certification as soon as I begin working as a tech or sooner if I am able to sit the test. I am venipuncture certified and CPR current. I did return twice from Asia and worked per diem as a tech for a few months each time. I have operated the GE 1.5t and a Siemens open unit.

Thank you for listening to my story.

Gregory
