Deaf MRI technicians?
Hi! Working as an MRI Technologist requires a lot of talking to the patient. You must screen the patients yourself, talk to them in between pulse sequences to ensure they are doing alright, and during breath hold exams. There is a huge safety factor with MRI with keeping certain metals away from the magnet so screening each and every person is a huge factor with being a MRI Technologist. As a MRI Technologist for a mobile company i speak with a radiologist that works at another facility for protocols and questions regarding exams and ensuring we get everything the patient and ordering doctor needs. If you have a MRI school in your area i would email or call them to see if any accomodations could be made, but i know from working mobile and at surrounding hospitals in this state and nearby states i live in, you would need to speak to the patient.

NEUROSTIMULATOR WIRES
I RECENTLY HAD A PATIENT WHO HAD HIS NEUROSTIMULATOR REMOVED BUT HAD 2 WIRES/LEADS STILL IMPLANTED AT THE L4-L5 DISC SPACE LEVEL. DR.SHELLOCKS SAFETY BOOK STATES GET PLAIN RADIOGRAPHS TO VERIFY THAT THERE ARE NO BROKEN LEADS. IS THIS CONSIDERED A BROKEN LEAD IF UNIT IS REMOVED AND WIRES/LEADS ARE STILL PRESENT? I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY GRAY LEVEL TRYING TO DETERMINE IF PATIENT IS SAFE TO SCAN AT 1.5T OR 3T. PLEASE HELP

Contrast regulation/Law
Does anybody know if there is a regulation regarding the doctors need to be present or within the premises during contrast inject for safety purposes? If somebody can provide an article or link regarding regulations or laws during this process.

ASTM labeling guidlines for all portable devices
Hello All,
I am currently working though some safety issues we are have having at the hospital where I oversee MRI. It is the wish of the radiologist per the ASTM standard supported by the AJR (ASTM F2503)that "items that may be brought into the MR environment be permanently marked to indicate the MR invironment to which a specific item may safely be exposed" Our radiologist want every IV pole, pump, respiratory device - anything that might end up near the MR - be labeled. I am wondering is anyone else doing the same thing?

3T Pulsoxymeter
Hi Lynn,
we use the pulse oximeter Nonin 8600 for our 1.5 T scanner as well as for the 3T system. I'm not sure whether it is tested for 3 T. At the 3 T system, we run the cable through filter boxes in the shielded scanner room, so there is no safety problem and we do not have artifacts.
It works well also for children.
