Which MRI machine to buy?
Hi Mike,

Is this your first MRI scanner purchase? I would recommend GE over Hitachi because it is more universal and it will be easier (and less expensive) to get service and refurbished parts. When you say high field do you mean 3.0? Since those are so costly, a 1.5T will give you the best value. That's what we currently use and with the right coils we obtain high quality images.

Hope that helps,
Sandra

Which MRI machine to buy?
I am looking at purchasing an MRI machine and am currently researching my options.

What are your suggestions?

I'm leaning towards Hitachi and can't decide if I want to go all out with a high field machine or not

Been looking a refurbished Hitachi Aries II so far...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Protection against magnetic exposure
Thank you very much Reader, for you answer very quickly! Sorry, I didn’t express myself very well. No, I don’t want to know about the “Gauss lines” (it’s how we say in France).

In the site of the World Health Organization, they talk about “The International EMF Project”.

I’m searching for informations about the effets of the magnetic fields on the human health. And the laws, if they exist in USA?
In France, there are no limits or laws which say the limits (time limits, job in high fields…) when you work at mri.
We just tell the pregnant not to go in the mri room. That’s all. I think you’re getting ahead France in this domain. For me, mri technology is like radiology’s first times, when Marie Curie discovered that tumor increased while X Ray exposure increased. You know?

MRI Claustrophobia Interview Request
Roger,

Claustrofobia is difficult topic, real claustrofobic patient won't enter the room...and thus won't experience MR.

Interesting question is how the environment surounding the actual MR, influences this behaviour (Ambient Experience). Also consider looking at High Field Open MR systems (1.0T).

Cheers

Radio frequency exposure
If the magnetic field strength (measured in Tesla/Gauss) increases, also the SAR increases. For fields up to 3.0 Tesla, the value of SAR is proportional to the square of the field but at high fields the body becomes increasingly conductive, with the need of increased RF power. The EMF exposure is reduced by the square of the distance.

Hope this will help
Chris
