Amplifier
Hardware
components from
MRI
systems. The
radio frequency
(RF) amplifier increases the power (measured in Watt) of the pulses from mW to kW and the
gradient amplifier
increases the power of the
gradient
pulses for the
gradient coils
.

Amplitude
The signal height. The greater the amplitude of the signal, the larger the number of protons in the image and the brighter the signal will appear.

Analog to Digital Converter
(ADC) A system that receives
analog
input data and produces digital values at its output. Used by the
MRI
scanner to convert the received signal into a format more compatible with the
computer
systems.

Angiography
Angiography means the imaging of veins and arteries.
Magnetic resonance angiography
(
MRA
) has a lower invasion than conventional angiography with catheter and X-ray
contrast
agent.
Time of flight angiography
(inflow) and
phase contrast angiography
works without
contrast agents
. Only in
contrast enhanced magnetic resonance angiography
is the use of
contrast agents
necessary, but the lack of side effects is an advantage of
MRI
contrast agents
, just as the smaller dosage as used in X-ray angiography techniques.
