A brand name for ferumoxide (same as Endorem™)
Feridex® is a sterile aqueous colloid of superparamagnetic iron oxide associated with dextran for intravenous administration as a MRI contrast medium for the detection of liver lesions that are associated with an alteration in the RES.
Feridex® is taken up by macrophages, found only in healthy liver cells but not in most tumors. Tissues such as metastases, primary liver cancer, cysts and various benign tumors, adenomas and hyperplasia retain their native signal intensity, so the contrast between normal and abnormal tissue is increased. Feridex® is a black to reddish-brown aqueous colloid.
See also Ferumoxide.

In November 2008, AMAG Pharmaceuticals, Inc. decided to discontinue the manufacturing of Feridex.

Ferric Ammonium CitrateInfoSheet: - Contrast Agents -
Intro, Overview,
Characteristics,
Types of,
etc.

Ferric ammonium citrate is a complex salt of indefinite composition that contains varying amounts of iron, that is obtained as red crystals or a brownish yellow powder or as green crystals or powder, and that was used formerly in medicine for treating iron-deficiency anaemia.
Solutions (e.g. corn oil emulsion) of ferric ammonium citrate (e.g., FerriSeltz, Geritol) can be used as positive oral contrast agents in MRI. Ferric ammonium citrate is safe and effective in humans, but has minor side effects.

FerrioxamineInfoSheet: - Contrast Agents -
Intro, Overview,
Characteristics,
Types of,
etc.

Ferrioxamines are potential iron oxide-based intravascular contrast agents. Ferrioxamine methanesulfonate, ferrioxamine-B, and hydroxyethyl-starch-ferrioxamine have been tested as MRI contrast agents, partly in clinical trials.
Ferrioxamine methanesulfonate was tested as a paramagnetic agent for the imaging of the kidney and the urogenital system. Hydroxyethyl-starch-ferrioxamine has the potential to provide information regarding myocardial vascular flow and ferrioxamine-B derivatives may be used as hepatobiliary contrast agents.

A solution of ferric ammonium citrate (Geritol) used to enhance the delineation of the bowel. With T1 weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) the predominantly positive enhancement helps to distinguish organs and tissues that are adjacent to the upper regions of the gastrointestinal tract. Product name found as both Ferriseltz® and FerriSeltz®.
